9. Mr. Lemass asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if any proposals have been made to establish a manufacturing unit for battery propelled cars; and, if so, if he will make a statement on the matter.

Mr. Keating: I understand that the IDA have received proposals in regard to battery propelled cars. None of the proposals has reached an advanced stage of negotiation.

Battery propelled cars are still at the research and development stage and there is no evidence yet that an economically viable production model has been developed.
