Ceisteanna-Questions. Oral Answers. - Meat Factories Short Time.

3. Mr. Gibbons asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries the number of meat factories that are working short time over recent weeks; and the reason for this position.

Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries (Mr. Clinton): I understand that due to a shortage of pigs one factory went on short time last week and a second is expected to do so this week.

Mr. MacSharry: Is it the Minister's opinion that many more factories will take the same action in the near future?

Mr. Clinton: I should not be surprised if more factories went on short time. There are fewer pigs in stock.
