Mr. Briscoe asked the Minister for Justice the number of parking tickets issued in the city of Dublin during the months of March, April and May, 1974. Minister for Justice (Mr. Cooney) Patrick M. Cooney Minister for Justice (Mr. Cooney): The numbers of “fine-on-the-spot” notices issued in the Dublin Metropolitan Area, excluding Dún Laoghaire and Bray, during the months of March, April and May, 1974, were 15,145, 15,445 and 15,875 respectively. Mr. Briscoe Mr. Briscoe Mr. Briscoe: Is the Minister satisfied from these figures that people are observing the “no parking” regulations in Dublin? If not, does he propose to take further action? Mr. Cooney Mr. Cooney Mr. Cooney: The figures seem high but they are a substantial reduction on last year's figures. For example, the figure for May, 1973 was 21,886 as compared with 15,875 this year. The trend is in the right direction. Mr. Briscoe Mr. Briscoe Mr. Briscoe: Does the Minister realise what I am referring to—the matter of security in the city at the moment? Mr. Cooney Mr. Cooney Mr. Cooney: Yes.
