Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork Industry.

17. Mrs. Desmond asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the progress that has been made towards the establishment of industry in the Ballincollig area of County Cork; and [929] if he is yet in a position to state the nature of any such development and the employment content.

Mr. Keating: I have been informed by the Industrial Development Authority that a proposal for a major industry to employ about 500 people is at present at an advanced stage of negotiation. Until a final decision is reached in the matter, however, I am not in a position, for reasons of confidentiality, to give details of the project.

I also understand that in order to encourage further the establishment of industry in the area the construction of a 42,000 square feet factory at Ballincollig will commence later this month.

Mr. Colley: Does the Minister mean an advance factory?

Mr. Keating: Yes. Well, it is much bigger than the normal advance factory; it is 42,000 square feet but it is an advance factory in the sense that there is not an occupant for it and its construction is starting this month.
