15. Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he has received a letter (details supplied) regarding the cattle crisis; and, if so, if he will make a statement on its contents.

Mr. M.P. Murphy: I received a copy of a letter addressed to all Dáil [1491] Deputies regarding cattle fodder supplies for the coming winter.

I myself and my Department had already been advising farmers to make the maximum use of green material for conservation as quality hay and silage.

The letter also suggested the export of young cattle but I think it is generally agreed that it is preferable in the circumstances of this country to rear cattle to a more mature stage.
