26. Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for the Public Service if there are any plans for the decentralisation of Government Departments other than the Departments of Education and Lands; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Minister for the Public Service (Mr. R. Ryan): As I stated last week in reply to a question by the Deputy, the Government favour the decentralisation of Departments. The decentralisation of Government Departments other than sections of the Departments of Education and Lands is being considered and will be implemented when feasible.

Mr. Molloy: Could the Minister give any indication which Departments, other than the two mentioned in the question, are under consideration for decentralisation?

Mr. R. Ryan: No. The question of the decentralisation of further services is being reviewed right across the board. No decision has yet been taken.

Mr. MacSharry: Can the Minister state the extent of the transfer of both the Departments mentioned?

Mr. R. Ryan: This is a matter that is now under consideration, both the question of the extent and the nature of the transfer.

Mr. Molloy: The Minister is saying in his reply there are no plans so.
