17. Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for Local Government the number of dwellings begun or authorised during [844] 1972-73 and 1973-74, in the form of Table 2 of the Quarterly Bulletin of Housing Statistics.

Following is the statement:

Notes:

(a) The figure for dwellings for which grants were allocated by the Department of Local Government in the year ended 31st March, 1973 was influenced by the higher than normal level of grants allocated in the latter and of 1972-73 due to the efforts of builders to have grants authorised before the introduction of price control for private grant aided houses.

(b) The reduced figure for grant allocations in 1973-74 was influenced by the temporary assignment in the early part of the year of housing inspectors to duties connected with a sample survey of the housing stock.
