Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Science and Technology Policy.

103. Mr. Lemass asked the Minister for Finance the present position regarding the Government's policy relating to science and technology.

Mr. R. Ryan: The Government's policy is to secure the optimum contribution from scientific and technological activity towards economic and social development and the attainment of national goals. A review of such activity directed towards this end and undertaken with the collaboration of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development will be completed shortly, following which I hope to put in train the necessary legislative measures for the introduction of new institutional arrangements for the formulation and implementation of a fully integrated national policy for science and technology.

Mr. Lemass: Could the Minister indicate when we might have the announcement?

[686] Mr. R. Ryan: Sooner than later.

Mr. Colley: Whatever that means.

Mr. Lemass: It is even more vague than some of the answers we get.
