30. Mr. Lemass asked the Minister for Health the cost of (a) the choice-of-doctor scheme and (b) the choice-of-pharmacist scheme in the Eastern Health Board area in each of the months October, November and December 1973.

Mr. Corish: As the reply is in the form of a table, I propose, with your permission a Cheann Comhairle, to circulate it with the Official Report.

The following is the information requested:

Payments in respect of medical services

Payments in respect of pharmaceutical* services

October

£116,508

£183,468

November

£107,019

£165,800

December

£117,863

£156,131

* Includes cost of drugs and appliances.

Mr. Lemass: Could the Minister say if the cost is over or under the estimates?

Mr. Corish: I have not got the figures for the estimates but I have for payments in respect of medical and pharmaceutical services. There is an increase but whether it will be regarded by the Eastern Health Board as being excessive or not I do not know.
