Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Leitrim River Drainage.

39. Mr. McLaughlin asked the Minister for Finance if work will commence soon on the drainage of the River Bonet in County Leitrim; and if he will state where this river is placed in the list of arterial drainage schemes to be carried out.

Mr. Kenny: The Bonet is No. 8 on the priority list of minor catchments to be considered for treatment under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945. A survey of this catchment has been made with a view to formulating an arterial drainage scheme. It will, however, be necessary to carry out a cost/benefit analysis to assess the merits of possible schemes as a capital investment. This will be done in due course. At this stage I cannot indicate when drainage works might commence.

Mr. Blaney: What number is it on the priority list?

Mr. Kenny: No. 8.

Mr. Blaney: And when was it placed on that list?

Mr. Kenny: 1945.
