Mr. Barrett asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he is satisfied that the security and fire and sea rescue services at Shannon Airport are adequate at the present time. Mr. P. Barry Mr. P. Barry Mr. P. Barry: The security, fire and rescue services at Shannon Airport are in accordance with the prescribed international standards and I am satisfied that they are adequate. Mr. Barrett Mr. Barrett 1514 Mr. Barrett: Is the Minister aware that the people who operate these services, namely, the airport police at Shannon Airport, are dissatisfied with the present service? Is he further aware [1514] that at a recent exercise at which some of the Aer Rianta people from head office were present there was very nearly a drowning? Is the Minister aware that the airport police regard this as very serious? Mr. P. Barry Mr. P. Barry Mr. P. Barry: I am not aware of this. I did not know about this incident. My understanding is that after the strike in June a work study was commissioned by the company to investigate this allegation about the staffing of the airport police in Shannon. The work study officer has since presented his findings and these have been accepted by the union involved. Mr. Barrett Mr. Barrett Mr. Barrett: When did the union accept these? Mr. P. Barry Mr. P. Barry Mr. P. Barry: I have not got the date. I can find that out. My information is that they have accepted the findings. Mr. Barrett Mr. Barrett Mr. Barrett: A week or ten days ago they had not made any decision on this. Mr. P. Barry Mr. P. Barry Mr. P. Barry: They have accepted them.
