Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Special Equipment Grants.

31. Mr. Davern asked the Minister for Education why the Presentation Convent, Cashel, County Tipperary, have not been paid the grant for recreational facilities which were provided there three years ago.

Mr. R. Burke: Special equipment grants for certain subjects, including physical education, are paid by my Department to schools where there is provision for the teaching of the subject. In the case of this school there is no teacher of physical education on the staff; therefore, I am precluded from sanctioning grants for equipment which should only be used under the guidance of a qualified teacher.

A small grant towards the cost of balls et cetera will be paid.
