146. Mr. Lemass asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he has formulated a beef carcase classification scheme.

Mr. Clinton: As I indicated recently in my statement at the CBF Beef Symposium, work has been proceeding on the formulation of such a scheme and experimental factory classification is now being carried out under normal commercial conditions with a view to helping to evolve a sound scheme.

Mr. Lemass: When will we have a decision?

Mr. Clinton: It is difficult to say. I must admit I am a bit disappointed in the fact that this has been going on since 1970 and we have not yet had a result. All I can say is I will do everything to expedite it.
