Dáil Éireann - Volume 264 - 12 December, 1972

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price Inflation.

34. Dr. O'Connell asked the Minister for Finance the rate of price inflation in each of the six present member countries of the EEC for the past 12 months; and how this compares with the rate in this country.

Mr. Colley: The consumer price indices for member-countries of the EEC increased as follows in the 12 months ended September, 1972, the latest date for which I have information: —

Netherlands

7.2 per cent

France

6.3 per cent

Italy

6.3 per cent

Germany

6.2 per cent

Luxembourg

5.9 per cent

Belgium

5.4 per cent

The nearest corresponding figure for Ireland is the 8.9 per cent increase registered in the consumer price index in the 12 months ended mid-August, 1972.

Mr. Bruton: Worse than any of them.
