Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Air Passenger Searches.
Mr. O.J. Flanagan Mr. O.J. Flanagan
24. Mr. O.J. Flanagan asked the Minister for Transport and Power if, as a result of a request from the British Government, all air passengers out of this country are being searched; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
Mr. B. Lenihan Mr. B. Lenihan
Mr. B. Lenihan: The wide range of security measures as recommended by the International Civil Aviation Organisation and implemented at Irish airports are kept under constant review and are intensified from time to time when such measures appear warranted. For security reasons it would not be prudent to divulge details of any special precautions which may be adopted in a particular situation. Searching of embarking passengers currently being carried out has been undertaken by Aer Rianta at the request of the airlines concerned.
