Mr. Coughlan asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he is aware that the deserted wives' allowance is payable only to those over 50 years of age; and if he will take steps to provide payment in all cases of desertion irrespective of the wife's age. Mr. J. Brennan Mr. J. Brennan 1658 Mr. J. Brennan: As the Deputy is no doubt aware, there is no lower age limit for the deserted wife's allowance in the case of a wife who has a dependent child. The age limit in the case of the wife who has no dependent child was reduced from 50 to 40 years with effect from 3rd August last.
