Dáil Éireann - Volume 262 - 05 July, 1972 Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Farrier Grants. Mr. Taylor Mr. Taylor 764 52. Mr. Taylor asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he will introduce a scheme of grants for [764] the reconstruction and modernisation of farriers' premises. Mr. Fahey Mr. Fahey Mr. Fahey: I am not satisfied as to the necessity for such a scheme. Mr. Coogan Mr. Coogan Mr. Coogan: The Parliamentary Secretary is not satisfied. On what grounds is he not satisfied? Mr. Fahey Mr. Fahey Mr. Fahey: It is my opinion that farriers are in a position to maintain their own premises without grants from the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries. Grants were paid by the IDA to farriers to enable them to take on the maintenance and repair of farm machinery. Mr. Coogan Mr. Coogan Mr. Coogan: The Parliamentary Secretary is talking through his hat. He does not know the difference between a farrier and an ordinary smith. Mr. Fahey Mr. Fahey Mr. Fahey: I certainly do know the difference. Mr. Coogan Mr. Coogan Mr. Coogan: The Parliamentary Secretary is talking to the wrong man now. The people who got these grants were in a different field of activity entirely. I know what I am talking about and no one in this House can tell me anything about it.
