106. Mr. Desmond asked the Minister for Local Government the amount of wages and salaries paid by local authorities in respect of the years 1970-71 and 1971-72.

Mr. Cunningham: The most recent year in respect of which returns have been received from local authorities is 1969-70, when the figure was £34,648,826 in respect of staff for which I am the appropriate Minister.
