Mr. Tully asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs (a) the number of applications for the position of trainee installer received in response to the last advertisement; (b) the number called for interview; (c) the qualifications required by a candidate to be called for interview; and (d) by whom the selection was made. Collins: As the information required by the Deputy is in the form of a tabular statement, it is proposed, with your permission, a Leas-Cheann [498] Comhairle, to have it circulated with the Official Report. Following is the statement:
Mr. Tully Mr. Tully Mr. Tully: Would the Minister not agree if a young man goes to the trouble of applying that at least he should be entitled, unless it is quite obvious he is unsuitable, to an interview, no matter how big the number is? Mr. G. Collins Mr. G. Collins Mr. G. Collins: There were 2,499 applicants of which 1,531 were called for interview. There were qualifications required of each candidate before they were called for interview. If the Deputy likes I can read them out to him. Mr. Tully Mr. Tully Mr. Tully: They will be given in the Official Report. Mr. G. Collins Mr. G. Collins Mr. G. Collins: I have been advised by my Department that all those who had the necessary qualifications were called for interview. Mr. Tully Mr. Tully Mr. Tully: If I give the Minister details of somebody who says he had the necessary qualifications and was not called for interview will he look into it? Mr. G. Collins Mr. G.
