Dáil Éireann - Volume 254 - 25 May, 1971 Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Coin Denominations. Mr. L'Estrange Mr. L'Estrange 38. Mr. L'Estrange asked the Minister for Finance whether he will consider introducing a 20p coin to bridge the excessively large gap between the 10p and 50p coins. Mr. Colley Mr. Colley Mr. Colley: I am not aware of any significant demand for the introduction of an extra coin at this stage. In any event I think it is too early to reach a decision on whether a coin between 10 new pence and 50 new pence should be added to the new decimal coinage. The question can be considered in the light of further experience of operating with the existing series of six decimal coins. Mr. L'Estrange Mr. L'Estrange Mr. L'Estrange: Does the Minister not consider we should have a 20p or 25p-coin? It is very awkward when one has a lot of 10p pieces in one's pocket. I have heard many people complaining. Mr. Colley Mr. Colley Mr. Colley: That is one argument for an additional coin, but there is also the question, if we were to have one, should it be 20p or 25p. It is too early to assess whether it is necessary and, if so, which kind of coin is needed. Mr. Coogan Mr. Coogan 34 Mr. Coogan: When the Minister is dealing with the question of new notes, [34] would he consider the question of a half note? Mr. Colley Mr. Colley Mr. Colley: I do not think that arises out of this question. An Ceann Comhairle Cormac Breslin An Ceann Comhairle: It is a separate question. Mr. Coogan Mr. Coogan Mr. Coogan: I have asked a question and at least I am entitled to a civil answer. Mr. Colley Mr. Colley Mr. Colley: May I submit, Sir, that it does not arise out of this question? An Ceann Comhairle Cormac Breslin An Ceann Comhairle: This question relates to coins. Question No. 39 postponed. Dáil Éireann 254 Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. Coin Denominations. Questions 19710525
