Mr. Meaney asked the Minister for Local Government if he now intends to grant a postal vote to commercial travellers. Minister for Local Government (Mr. Molloy) Robert Molloy Minister for Local Government (Mr. Molloy): Postal voting is confined by law to members of the Garda Síochána and the Defence Forces. The Joint Committee on the Electoral Law recommended in its Final Report, dated 12th July, 1961, against any further extension of postal voting facilities, on the grounds that the greatly increased risk of abuse would not be justified. As has already been indicated in replies to previous questions on this subject, the introduction of legislation to extend postal voting facilities is not proposed. Dáil Éireann 250 Written Answers.
