57. Mr. Tunney asked the Minister for Local Government whether it is proposed to introduce any schemes of grants for firms or householders changing to smokeless fuel.

Mr. Molloy: There is no such proposal under consideration.

Mr. Tunney: Having regard to the attitude towards pollution, does the Minister not think that it might be advisable to have such a scheme introduced?

Mr. Molloy: The matter is one which will be considered by an interdepartmental committee which will be concerned with these matters. I should point out to the Deputy that at present in Great Britain there is a shortage of smokeless fuel and there might be difficulty in acquiring a sufficient supply if we introduced such a regulation here.
