Mr. Begley asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the total amount invested by the State by way of extra grants and loans to a firm (name supplied) in Cahirciveen, Waterville, County Kerry, and the details thereof. Mr. J. Gibbons Mr. J. Gibbons Mr. J. Gibbons: The total amount paid by way of grants to Rainbow Limited is £101,800 made up of £26,800 for the mink farm, and £75,000 for the trout farm. I have no function in regard to any loans obtained by the company. Mr. Begley Mr. Begley 69. Mr. Begley asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will institute an inquiry into the affairs of a firm (name supplied) in Cahirciveen in view of the fact that the State invested in same. Mr. J. Gibbons Mr. J. Gibbons 1020 Mr. J. Gibbons: I understand that [1020] the sale of the factory assets to a new owner has recently been completed and that the new owner is engaged in discussions locally with a view to the recommencement of certain operations which had ceased. I see no reason, therefore, for instituting an inquiry into the affairs of the firm. Mr. Begley Mr. Begley Mr. Begley: Is the Minister aware that the factory has closed down and that the men who worked there were told to take their cards and to hit the road? In view of the amount of grants put into that project, surely the Government should have seen that these men got at least 14 days' notice? Mr. J. Gibbons Mr. J. Gibbons Mr. J. Gibbons: I am aware that negotiations are going on about this project in order to get the operation going again.
