Flanagan asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he will arrange for the ESB to abolish their scale of special charges to consumers. Mr. Lenihan Mr. Lenihan Mr. Lenihan: The Government reviewed the rural electrification charges last year and arranged with the Electricity Supply Board for considerable reductions in the high special service charges which some consumers were required to pay because of the high cost of connecting them. The reductions were quite substantial and some consumers' special service charges were reduced by 50 per cent or more These reduced special service charges are the lowest which the Government can arrange at present. Mr. P. O'Donnell Mr. P. O'Donnell 2301 [2301] Mr. P. O'Donnell: When this recanvass of rural Ireland is completed will it be possible to abolish the special service charge? Mr. B. Lenihan Mr. B. Lenihan Mr. B. Lenihan: It depends on the reaction to the recanvass. Everything depends on that.
