Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Telephone Directory Classified List.

3. Mr. Clinton asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs why, rather than having the classified list in the centre of the telephone directory as at present, it has been decided to publish it in a separate volume.

Minister for Posts and Telegraphs (Mr. Childers): The classified section in the current directory lists only about four per cent of business subscribers. The classified directory which it is proposed to introduce next year will contain the entries of all business subscribers classified by trade and profession. It will, therefore, provide a much greater service to subscribers and to the public in general.

For reasons of size it would not be possible to incorporate such a list with the alphabetic directory.

Mr. Clinton: Will it cost much more?

Mr. Childers: It will be issued free to subscribers. It will be paid for by advertisements, as are other classified directories.
