Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tax on Luxury Goods.

15. Dr. O'Connell asked the Minister for Finance if the Government will consider the need for a discriminatory tax on luxury goods so as to relieve the present taxation burden on the poorer sections of the community.

Mr. Haughey: I hope to issue shortly a White Paper on turnover taxation with particular reference to tax on added value. I would not like to comment on any one aspect of sales taxation before the Dáil and the public have had an opportunity to study the White Paper.
