Dáil Éireann - Volume 227 - 13 April, 1967 Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - River Moy Subsidiary Drains. Mr. Lindsay Mr. Lindsay 19. Mr. Lindsay asked the Minister for Finance why the subsidiary drains on either side of the River Moy between Coolcronan and Foxford, County Mayo, have not been drained; and if he is aware that the major drainage will be wholly ineffectual if these drains are not done. Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Finance (Mr. J. Gibbons) James Gibbons Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Finance (Mr. J. Gibbons): All the tributaries which join the Moy between Foxford and Coolcronan, and which were included in the confirmed scheme for the Moy catchment have been dealt with. Contrary to what the Deputy suggests, the scheme has brought a great improvement to this area. The full effect of the work will be reviewed before the scheme is completed and consideration will be given to the need for inclusion of some additional drainage in the locality. Mr. Lindsay Mr. Lindsay Mr. Lindsay: Is it felt that there is a possibility that additional drainage may be necessary in this area? Mr. J. Gibbons Mr. J. Gibbons Mr. J. Gibbons: When the scheme is nearing completion, this area will be reviewed and, if it is evident that further drainage is necessary, that further drainage will be carried out. Mr. Lindsay Mr. Lindsay 1682 Mr. Lindsay: It must be reasonably [1682] evident, as the Parliamentary Secretary will understand, when complaints are made to us and we have to table Parliamentary Questions in relation to them. Mr. J. Gibbons Mr. J. Gibbons Mr. J. Gibbons: This is one of about 300 odd complaints and requests we have received for the extension of the planned drainage programme. It is quite a usual thing and, before completion of the scheme, all these requests and complaints will be examined on their merits; if further drainage can be provided economically, then it will be provided.
