Dáil Éireann - Volume 227 - 05 April, 1967
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - B & I Ferry Vessel.
Mr. Moore Mr. Moore
15. Mr. Moore asked the Minister for Transport and Power if the Liffey Dockyard Company, Limited was given the opportunity of tendering for the building of the new ferry vessel which the British and Irish Steam Packet Company propose to have built in a German shipyard.
Mr. Lalor Mr. Lalor
Mr. Lalor: The B & I, in order to provide a modern ferry service for the 1968 season, are purchasing a vessel already under construction and due for delivery by 1st May, 1968. The company had confirmed from the Liffey Dockyard Co. Ltd. that they were not in a position to build a ship of the size needed and to have it completed by the time required. The question of inviting a tender from the Liffey Dockyard did not, therefore, arise.
