Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ballina Public Conveniences.

[1392] 14. Mr. Lindsay asked the Minister for Local Government how far advanced the plans are to have suitable public conveniences erected in the town of Ballina, County Mayo.

Mr. Blaney: A preliminary proposal submitted by Ballina Urban District Council for the erection of a public sanitary convenience at Ham Bridge is at present under consideration in my Department. I hope to be in a position to convey my decision shortly.

Mr. O'Hara: Is the Minister aware that this matter has been a long time in the hands of the Department and will he now take the necessary steps to give a favourable decision?

Mr. Blaney: That is what we are about to do. Does the Deputy object?

Mr. O'Hara: May I take it that it will be favourable?

Mr. Sweetman: It depends on whether there is a by-election in the offing. Would it be swapped for the biscuit factory in Ballina?

Mr. Blaney: You never know. If you people want it badly enough, we will let you have it.
