Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Industrial Grants.

49. Mr. Donegan asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he has under review the manner of giving grants for new industries with a view to producing a more flexible system more suited to competition with this country's nearest neighbours in the attraction of new industries.

Minister for Industry and Commerce (Dr. Hillery): As I indicated to the Deputy on 26th January, 1966, the grant incentives scheme is being kept under review. I have, however, no reason to believe that the scheme is [1150] not competitive with those operating elsewhere.

Mr. Donegan: Has the Minister not noted a change in the grant system in Northern Ireland and Britain?

Dr. Hillery: Even with the change, the grants here are still favourable from the competitive point of view.

Mr. Donegan: That opinion is not held by the British people, who state otherwise.

Dr. Hillery: There is a continuing review.
