Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dáil Gallery Grille.

14. Mr. Donegan asked the Minister for Finance if the objectionable wire netting between the public gallery and the general chamber of the Dáil will be removed.

Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Finance (Mr. J. Gibbons): The [1122] wire grille referred to by the Deputy was provided in 1930 following a request from the Office of the Houses of the Oireachtas, and while it may not be entirely appropriate I think it will be generally agreed that some form of protective screen is desirable.

I shall have the matter fully examined and a report made for consideration by the Committee on Procedure and Privileges. I should point out, however, that the design and provision of a suitable alternative may not be a simple or inexpensive matter.
