Mr. James Tully asked the Minister for Local Government what is the present position about the Saint James's Terrace, Athboy, group water scheme, County Meath. Mr. P. Brennan Mr. P. Brennan Mr. P. Brennan: I am informed that work on this scheme is in progress and should shortly be completed. Mr. James Tully Mr. James Tully 425 Mr. James Tully: Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that this scheme was started several months ago and that the contractor has apparently abandoned work on the scheme? Will he say whether or not the Department's inspector is supposed to ensure that, when the work is started and the road is opened, the job is completed, or can the contractor who starts work on [425] that scheme just leave it there until it suits himself to finish it? Mr. P. Brennan Mr. P. Brennan Mr. P. Brennan: It would not be very desirable if he were to put it on the long finger, so to speak. Mr. James Tully Mr. James Tully Mr. James Tully: Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that that is not what happened? Mr. P. Brennan Mr. P. Brennan Mr. P. Brennan: My information is that it is expected the job will be completed before Christmas. Mr. James Tully Mr. James Tully Mr. James Tully: Would the Parliamentary Secretary say how he expects the job will be completed before Christmas, in view of the fact the contractor has not been seen there for quite a long time and nobody is working there at present? Mr. James Tully asked the Minister for Local Government what is the present position about the Fennor-Slane group water scheme, County Meath. Mr. P. Brennan Mr. P. Brennan Mr. P. Brennan: To meet the wishes of the Meath County Council, it is proposed to amalgamate the Fennor-Slane group water supply scheme with a similar scheme for Beauparc. It is intended that both schemes will ultimately be integrated with the east Meath regional scheme. A letter dealing with certain aspects of the overall proposal was recently issued to the local authority. Mr. James Tully Mr. James Tully Mr. James Tully: Is the Parliamentary Secretary not aware that the Fennor group have asked for connection with the Slane village scheme which is about a half mile from the end of their scheme and that they have stated there is no point in asking for connection with the Beauparc scheme, which is four to five miles away? Will the Parliamentary Secretary have inquiries made with regard to this matter? Mr. P. Brennan Mr. P. Brennan Mr. P. Brennan: I have now got the reply to Question No. 13.
