43. Mr. M.J. O'Higgins asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the present position with regard to the Avoca mines.

Dr. Hillery: Competitive tenders were sought last year for the State's interest in St. Patrick's Copper Mines Limited, Avoca, from private concerns willing to undertake a satisfactory scheme of exploration and development of the mines. A number of proposals have been received, some very recently, and these are still under examination.
