60. Dr. Browne asked the Taoiseach the percentage of the gross national income spent on old age pensions, and on pensions in respect of widows, orphans and the blind, in each of the years 1939, 1949, 1959 and 1963.

The Taoiseach: The expenditure on old age pensions and on pensions in respect of widows, orphans and the blind expressed as a proportion of the gross national product at current market prices in each of the years [1305] 1938/39, 1949/50 and 1959/60, is shown in the following table. Corresponding information in respect of 1939/40 is not available and data for 1963/64 have not yet been compiled.
