Dáil Éireann - Volume 203 - 30 May, 1963 Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Castle Staff Accommodation. Mr. O.J. Flanagan Mr. O.J. Flanagan 6. Mr. O.J. Flanagan asked the Minister for Finance what staff is to be housed in the cross block now being rebuilt at Dublin Castle for the Revenue Commissioners at a total estimated cost of £115,000. Dr. Ryan Dr. Ryan 580 Dr. Ryan: The reconstructed cross block at Dublin Castle will provide [580] accommodation for about 90 heads of staff of the Revenue Commissioners as well as a certain amount of storage space. The former cross block had to be demolished because, like other buildings at the Castle, it was found to be in a dangerous condition. The staff displaced are at present temporarily accommodated in various other premises in the city, but the arrangement is generally unsatisfactory. Mr. O.J. Flanagan Mr. O.J. Flanagan Mr. O.J. Flanagan: Is it not true to say one of the reasons why it is necessary to spend this £115,000 is to provide additional accommodation for the officers of the Department who will be dealing with the new turnover tax? Dr. Ryan Dr. Ryan Dr. Ryan: I do not know whether that was foreseen or not when this was considered a couple of years ago. Mr. O.J. Flanagan Mr. O.J. Flanagan Mr. O.J. Flanagan: Is it not enough for the public to have to pay the tax without having to pay this £115,000 to provide the accommodation for such work? Dr. Ryan Dr. Ryan Dr. Ryan: The Minister for Finance has great foresight. He must have foreseen this two years ago. Mr. O.J. Flanagan Mr. O.J. Flanagan Mr. O.J. Flanagan: That is an admission for you. Dáil Éireann 203 Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. Dublin Castle Staff Accommodation. Questions 19630530
