Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - EEC: Defence Commitments of Ireland.

3. Dr. Browne and Mr. McQuillan asked the Taoiseach whether any defence commitments will be taken up by Ireland in relation to the defence of Europe in anticipation of her proposed membership of the EEC.

The Taoiseach: The answer is in the negative.

Dr. Browne: Might I ask the Taoiseach whether it is the Government's intention to pursue the idea of taking part in the defence of Europe, irrespective of whether or not our application for membership is successful?

The Taoiseach: That seems to be a different question altogether.

Dr. Browne: Surely it arises out of the Taoiseach's reply. If the Taoiseach likes, I will put down a question.

An Ceann Comhairle: In my opinion, it is a separate question.
