Dáil Éireann - Volume 197 - 22 November, 1962

Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers. - Issue of Telephone Directory.

79. Mr. Sweetman asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the cause of the delay in the issue of the 1962 telephone directory.

Minister for Posts and Telegraphs (Mr. Hilliard): Distribution of the new Telephone Directory commenced last week. The delay in issue was due to increases in the size and number of directory copies required and to difficulties arising from the presence of static electricity during printing.

Mr. Dillon: Of static electricity?

Mr. Hilliard: During the printing.

[1737] Mr. Dillon: Really, that is an interesting development. Could the Minister elaborate on that? I have heard that static electricity affected radio but how did it affect the telephone directory?

Mr. Hilliard: I am not a technical expert and the only explanation a non-technical person could give is that there must have been a leprechaun in the paper.

Mr. Dillon: A gremlin.

Mr. T. Lynch: We must look for him in the Directory.

Mr. Tully: He is on the phone.
