Dáil Éireann - Volume 196 - 26 June, 1962 Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Offaly Road Repairs Mr. O.J. Flanagan Mr. O.J. Flanagan 739 [739] 112. Mr. O.J. Flanagan asked the Minister for Finance when it is proposed to expend the remainder of the grant already provided for the bog road from the county road entering Mulhaire's bog at Derrinlough, Birr, County Offaly; and if he will give the reasons why the full amount of the grant was not expended on this work during the last season. Mr. O.J. Flanagan Mr. O.J. Flanagan 116. Mr. O.J. Flanagan asked the Minister for Finance if he will give the reason why the full amount of the grant provided by his Department was not spent on repairs to the accommodation and bog road from the county road at Sam Morris's ruins south to Patrick Monahan's residence at Derrycooly, Rahan, Tullamore, County Offaly; if it is a fact that portion of this grant was spent elsewhere; and, if so, for what reason. Mr. O.J. Flanagan Mr. O.J. Flanagan 118. Mr. O.J. Flanagan asked the Minister for Finance the reason why the full amount of the grant provided for by his Department to repair the bog road from the county road at Thomas Poland's cottage north to the canal towing path at Kate Domican's house with branch from Mr. John Collin's turf bank west to the county road at Mr. James Kidney's house was not spent on this proposal; if it is a fact that portion of this grant was spent elsewhere; if so, on what bog road it was spent; for what reason; and if it was with his approval. Mr. O'Malley Mr. O'Malley Mr. O'Malley: With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 112, 116 and 118 together. The full amounts of the grants made available for these three roads last winter were expended as sanctioned and the other parts of the Questions do not, therefore, arise. Mr. O.J. Flanagan Mr. O.J. Flanagan 740 122. Mr. O.J. Flanagan asked the Minister for Finance the date on which the last inspection was carried out by his Department on the bog and accommodation road for which a grant was applied for by Mr. Richard Kelly, [740] Derryvilla, Portarlington, County Offaly; and the reason for the delay in the carrying out of this inspection. Mr. O'Malley Mr. O'Malley Mr. O'Malley: I am unable to trace an application for a road work from Mr. Kelly. The road to his house and bog was last inspected on 9th June, 1960. Mr. O.J. Flanagan Mr. O.J. Flanagan 127. Mr. O.J. Flanagan asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware that in relation to the scheme for the erection of a bridge on the road from Sheeran's cottage to the yard of Mr. Joseph Boland, Derryarkin, Croghan, Tullamore, Offaly an officer of the Offaly County Council has stated that in order to carry out this work the road must be closed for a period of five weeks; and that Mr. Boland and the local residents and users of land will suffer grave inconvenience; if any alternative arrangements can be made so that people may have access to their homes during the period while work is in progress; and if the matter will be further examined with a view to a solution to this difficult problem. Mr. O'Malley Mr. O'Malley Mr. O'Malley: I am aware of the problem which is that the work for which a 100 per cent. State grant has been made available in the case of this bridge can only be done when the water level is low as it is now, but the beneficiaries are not agreeable to the carrying out of the work at present. I have the matter under examination to see how the problem can best be solved having regard to all the circumstances. Dáil Éireann 196 Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers.
