Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Old Age Pensions.

13. Mr. Harte asked the Minister for Social Welfare if in fact a contributory old age pensioner can receive a smaller pension than a non-contributory old age pensioner; and, if so, if will be explain why this should be.

Minister for Social Welfare (Mr. Boland): The maximum personal rate of old age (contributory) pension is 40/- a week, where the yearly average of contributions paid or credited is 48 or more, and the minimum personal rate is 30/- a week, where the yearly average is only 24. The maximum rate of non-contributory old age pension is 30/- a week. Consequently no old age (contributory) pension is payable at a lower rate than non-contributory old age pension.
