Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fertiliser Price Increase.

83. Mr. Donegan asked the Minister for Agriculture why, with increased Government subsidy, the price of fertilisers has increased.

Minister for Agriculture (Mr. Smith): Potash is the only fertiliser on which an increased subsidy is being paid this season. I understand that increases in prices are due to (1) higher import prices for potassic and nitrogenous fertilisers and (2) increased manufacturing and importation costs due to rising labour and handling charges. The price of one fertiliser, however—basic slag—shows a reduction on last season.
