Mr. Corish Mr. Corish
50. Mr. Corish asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether his attention has been drawn to the speech made on Saturday, 18th November, by Mr. J. Moore, Chairman of the Motorists' Association, complaining of the excessive recent increases in the cost of motor insurance and calling for the setting up of an appeals tribunal for motor insurance; and whether he will take steps to review the whole position of the high cost of motor insurance with a view to some reduction.
Mr. S. Flanagan Mr. S. Flanagan
51. Mr. S. Flanagan asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that there is considerable unrest among the motoring public over recent developments regarding rates and conditions of motor insurance; and, if so, what action he proposes to take in the matter.
Mr. Childers Mr. Childers
Mr. Childers: I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 50 and 51 together.
I would refer the Deputies to the reply which I made to a question on this subject on 22nd November, 1961, in the course of which I indicated that I had asked the insurance companies to furnish me with a detailed statement of the considerations which necessitates an increase in the existing premium rates.
