24. Mr. Kyne asked the Minister for Defence whether his attention has been drawn to a report of statements made in the course of a lecture given by Lt.Col. Joseph Adams to the Dublin Lions Club, referring to the dropping of a Congolese chief from a helicopter by an Irish soldier; if so, whether Lt.-Col. Adams' speech had been submitted to his Department before it was made; and whether his Department [16] had given permission for such statements to be made.

Mr. K. Boland: I saw the report mentioned by the Deputy. I am advised that the officer's statement on the matter referred to was misinterpreted and that no member of the Irish contingent was, in fact, involved in the incident.

The officer in question had official permission to give the talk, the headings for which were submitted by him beforehand and approved.
