Mr. Belton and Mr. Casey asked the Minister for Transport and Power whether Córas Iompair Éireann have submitted an amending scheme to him to provide for an increase in pensions paid to former workers to meet the recent rise in the cost of living. Mr. Childers Mr. Childers Mr. Childers: The answer is in the negative. I understand, however, that wages grade pensioners of C.I.E. will be eligible for contributory old age pensions under the Social Welfare (Amendment) Act, 1960. Mr. Belton Mr. Belton Mr. Belton: Is the Minister aware that men with over 40 years' service in C.I.E. have as little as 12/- a week pension? Does he consider that an adequate pension for men who have given such long service to a company? Mr. Childers Mr. Childers 28 Mr. Childers: I have already told the Deputy that C.I.E. wages grade pensioners will qualify for contributory old age pensions under the provisions of the Social Welfare (Amendment) Act, 1960. They will get [28] between 30/- and 40/- per week, depending on their contributions, and dependent adults, 28/6d. Mr. Casey Mr. Casey Mr. Casey: Has the Minister no concern for the fact that over 50 per cent. of retired wages grade employees of C.I.E. are in receipt of a pension of less than 12/- per week after 30 or 40 years' service? Mr. Childers Mr. Childers Mr. Childers: I have told the Deputy the position about contributory old age pensions. Mr. Casey Mr. Casey Mr. Casey: There is no thanks to C.I.E. for the new scheme. Mr. T.
