Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Physical Culture in Primary Schools.

8. Sir Anthony Esmonde asked the Minister for Education if he has considered the introduction of physical culture in primary schools.

Dr. Hillery: Physical Training is an optional subject on the curriculum for national schools. The question of whether the curriculum can be extended so as to provide for the introduction of Physical Training in all schools is still under review and I am unable to make a definite statement on the matter at present.

Mr. Barry: With the permission of [1711] the Ceann Comhairle, I desire to raise the subject matter of Question No. 22 from yesterday's Order Paper on the Adjournment.

An Ceann Comhairle: I shall communicate with the Deputy in due course.

Mr. Ryan: I wish to give notice that I desire to raise on the Adjournment the matter of dismissal notices which have been served on a number of temporary civil servants in Dublin labour exchanges, civil servants with an average period of service of 15 years and upwards.

An Ceann Comhairle: The Deputy will have to give me written notice of that. I do not understand the import of it.

Mr. Ryan: I shall do that.

An Ceann Comhairle: I do not know at this stage whether or not it is a matter that can legitimately be raised.
