Dáil Éireann - Volume 173 - 11 March, 1959 Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Old Age Pensioners' Costs. Dr. Browne Dr. Browne 22. Dr. Browne asked the Minister for Social Welfare whether the cost of food and other necessary items required by an old age pensioner would be equal to or would exceed the needs of a person in social group 5, as ascertained in the Household Budget Survey, 1951-52. Mr. Kennedy Mr. Kennedy Mr. Kennedy: The Household Budget Inquiry, 1951-52, was a survey of actual household expenditure in selected sample households in towns and villages in Ireland. It did not purport to be an assessment of the needs of those households. Consequently, even if figures showing the cost of food and other necessary items required by old age pensioners were available, they would not be comparable with the Household Budget figures.
