Dáil Éireann - Volume 172 - 27 January, 1959 Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Teaching of History. Mr. O.J. Flanagan Mr. O.J. Flanagan 1033 21. Mr. O.J. Flanagan asked the Minister for Education whether his [1033] attention has been drawn in recent weeks to cases where national schoolteachers are referring in a biassed manner to matters of a current political nature during the teaching of Irish history, and that this has been deplored by parents; and what action he has taken or proposes to take in the matter. Mr. J. Lynch Mr. J. Lynch Mr. J. Lynch: The answer to the first part of the question is no and the second part does not, therefore, arise. Mr. O.J. Flanagan Mr. O.J. Flanagan Mr. O.J. Flanagan: Has the Minister's attention been drawn to the fact that a number of Fianna Fáil schoolteachers have been making references to the Presidential election and have been referring directly or indirectly to the Taoiseach in the presence of schoolchildren; and if such facts are brought to the Minister's attention, will he take steps to see that this is stopped in national schools? Mr. J. Lynch Mr. J. Lynch Mr. J. Lynch: If the Deputy has any representations to make in that regard, the proper person to whom to address them is the school manager, who is in charge of the school. Mr. O.J. Flanagan Mr. O.J. Flanagan Mr. O.J. Flanagan: The school manager may share the same political views and, if he does, might I ask the Minister to take action? Mr. J. Lynch Mr. J. Lynch Mr. J. Lynch: That would show remarkable enlightenment. Dáil Éireann 172 Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. Teaching of History. Questions 19590127
