Mr. Corish asked the Minister for Education if he will now consider paying the balance of the retirement gratuity due to those national teachers who retired prior to 1950. Mr. J. Lynch Mr. J. Lynch Mr. J. Lynch: I would refer the Deputy to my reply on 27th February, 1958, to a similar question from Deputy Oliver J. Flanagan. I have nothing to add to that reply. Mr. Corish Mr. Corish Mr. Corish: Could the Minister say briefly what that reply was? Mr. J. Lynch Mr. J. Lynch Mr. J. Lynch: That the Government had given full consideration again to the claim for lump sum payments, that the concessions that were made in 1953 were the maximum that circumstances would permit and that nothing had occurred in the meantime to change that reply. Mr. Corish Mr. Corish Mr. Corish: That is the final word? Mr. J. Lynch Mr. J. Lynch Mr. J. Lynch: Yes, and I might point out to the Deputy that it is consistent with a decision taken by the Government of which he was a member.
