Mr. Desmond asked the Minister for Health whether an application has been received from South Cork Board of Public Assistance requesting sanction to increase employees' wages by 10/- per week as from 1st January, 1958; and, if so, what is the present position regarding the application.

Mr. MacEntee: I have not received such an application from the South Cork Board of Public Assistance.

Mr. Desmond: Is the Minister not aware of the receipt in his Department of such a request from the South Cork [145] Board of Public Assistance, which includes members of his own Party, in respect of wage increases as and from 1st January? It is in his Department.

Mr. MacEntee: I am aware that at the time this reply was drafted and at the time when I considered the terms of it, we had not received the request.

Mr. MacEntee: It cannot be there. We have not received it. It cannot be in two places at once.
