Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Feeling of Copper Beech Tree.
Mr. J.A. Costello Mr. J.A. Costello
Mr. J.A. Costello asked the Minister for Lands whether his attention has been directed to the indignation felt by the residents at Seaview Terrace and Nutley Road, Donnybrook, at the action of a private person in seeking to fell a copper beech tree of outstanding beauty; whether the person proposing to fell the tree sought any permission from his Department; whether such permission is required by statute or otherwise; and if he has any powers to pervent this destruction.
Minister for Lands (Mr. Childers) Erskine Hamilton Childers
Minister for Lands (Mr. Childers): Permission for the felling of the tree in question was not sought from my Department. Such permission is not required since trees standing in a county borough or urban district were specifically excluded from the operation of those provisions of the Forestry Act, 1946, which impose restirction on the felling of trees.
