Mr. Killilea Mr. Killilea Mr. Killilea asked the Minister for Lands what progress has been made by the Land Commission towards the sub-division of the Blake estate, Corbally, County Galway, Record No. 9957. Minister for Lands (Mr. Blowick) Joseph Blowick Minister for Lands (Mr. Blowick): Due to pressure of more urgent work it has not yet been possible to prepare a scheme for the division of these lands. It is hoped, however, to have the formulation of a scheme undertaken at an early date. Mr. Killilea Mr. Killilea Mr. Killilea asked the Minister for Lands whether the Land Commission have considered the propriety of acquiring the lands on the Diskin estate, Newtown Lynott, County Galway, Ref. A. and R. 14279/45, and, if so, with what result. Mr. Blowick Mr. Blowick Mr. Blowick: The Land Commission had negotiations with the owner of these lands to exchange them for a holding in the Midlands. These negotiations have proved unsuccessful and the Land Commission have decided to take no further action. Mr. Killilea Mr. Killilea 460 Mr. Killilea asked the Minister for Lands whether he is now in a position [460] to state when the estates of O'Dea and Lynskey, Kilconley and Kilbannon, Tuam, County Galway, will be subdivided. Mr. Blowick Mr. Blowick Mr. Blowick: It is hoped, if at all possible, to allot this season the former holdings of Mrs. Mary Lynskey in the townlands of Hillsbrook demesne, Lissavalley and Twenty Acres. Schemes for the division of the former holdings of Thomas St. John O'Dea and Miss Mary Lynskey in the townlands of Cartron and Pollacorragune are in course of preparation but it is not possible at present to indicate when disposal will be effected. In both cases a certain amount of rearrangement will be necessary. Mr. McQuillan Mr. McQuillan Mr. McQuillan asked the Minister for Lands whether the Land Commission have prepared a scheme for the division of the Higgins lands, Largan, Ballaghaderreen, County Roscommon, Record No. S. 20694, and, if so, when it is likely to be put into operation. Mr. Blowick Mr. Blowick Mr. Blowick: A scheme for the division of this property comprising 66 acres of bog has not yet been prepared. It may be necessary to await the outcome of investigations at present being made in regard to other areas of bog in the locality. Mr. McQuillan Mr. McQuillan Mr. McQuillan asked the Minister for Lands whether the Land Commission have yet prepared a scheme for the division of the De Freyne estate, Frenchpark, County Roscommon, and, if so, when it is likely to be put into operation. Mr. Blowick Mr. Blowick Mr. Blowick: Whilst a scheme for the division of these lands is at present in course of preparation I am unable to indicate when allotment will take place. Mr. McQuillan Mr. McQuillan Mr. McQuillan: Will the Minister ensure that in the setting of the lands, until the scheme is actually put into operation, the claims of the small holders in the vicinity will be sympathetically considered and the small holders will be given priority over the large holders in relation to the taking of conacre. Mr. Blowick Mr. Blowick 461 Mr. Blowick: It has been Land Commission practice for a long number of [461] years back to give priority to the small holders in the locality. Mr. McQuillan Mr. McQuillan Mr. McQuillan: All I merely asked the Minister was, would he ensure that would happen because I have information that it does not happen? Mr. Blowick Mr. Blowick Mr. Blowick: The question is absolutely unnecessary because the Deputy is asking me to do something which has been done for years back, and has always been done.
